We don’t rise to the level of our goals, we fail to the level of our systems.
Failing to the level of our systems. I came across this sentiment somewhere last month (likely a Tim Ferris podcast) and it has really stuck with me. In the past couple years, I’ve started to notice this sinking feeling that I’ve accomplished all the “easy” goals I’ve set for myself but the bigger goals feel rather distant. This is more of a feeling than a fact, but a good reality check. In setting a plan for this new year, I’ve been looking at how I can set up systems and micro-goals that will enable me to reach the larger goals I have. I left LA, I don’t believe in manifesting. Lofty ambitions will get you nowhere without systems and accountability.
2023 is about systems for me — setting tangible, trackable ways to achieve the goals I’ve set for myself. One of the ethereal goals I always have floating about in my mind is to improve my writing. My Google Drive is full of outlines, notes and ideas. The trackable plan for improving my writing this year is publishing at least one article a month. January is here, and the topic is The Paradox of Trust. Next month I’ve been muddling around in some thoughts about flexibility and adaptability in the workplace. Stay tuned – this is accountability :)
